The FX series American Horror Story has had two very successful seasons. Many of the show’s viewers have been around since the pilot of season 1 with its “Murder House” theme. New fans started tuning in with the show’s second season and its plot surrounding the “Insane Asylum.” The great thing about the show itself is that you don’t have to actually watch the seasons in order to know what the storyline is and who the characters are because the entire show is always changing.
After season 1, we learned that the show’s writer and co-creator Ryan Murphy developed a series filled with miniseries. At first, I hated the idea because I had fallen in love with the characters and the storylines from the first season, and I craved for more after the finale. But I quickly discovered that Murphy loves to reuse his actors to create new characters and I was thrilled to see them return, whether they switched from being bad to good or good to bad.
Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Dylan McDermott, Lily Rabe, and Frances Conroy played roles in both season 1 and 2 of AHS. And now, viewers have been thrilled to find out that Lange, Peters, Paulson, Rabe, and Conroy are all returning for a third season. Quinto and McDermott will not be appearing in any new roles for the show, but Taissa Farmiga, who played Violet in season 1, is returning. Newcomer and Oscar-winner Kathy Bates will also be joining the season 3 cast as Lange’s old best friend and new nemesis.
AHS fans have also been enlightened with the news that the third season will be set in modern day and shot in three different cities. Murphy has also made a promise to have a Violet-and-Tate-style romance incorporated in the upcoming season. He has also revealed that the main villain will be similar to season one’s Rubber Man and season two’s Bloody Face, but this time the villain will be a woman. Could the villain be Bates? There are also speculations that this season’s plot will be about witchcraft or voodoo.
What are you AHS fanatics most excited about? For me, I can’t wait to see Evan Peters and Jessica Lange deliver more great performances. I also love that this season will be in modern day opposed to the last two seasons being set in the past. Personally, I enjoyed the first season a little bit more, so I hope to see the show go back to the creepy and surprising ways of season 1.
American Horror Story returns this fall on FX.
